Always remember you matter, you're important and you are loved, and you bring to this world things no-one else can

Charlie Mackesy (author of The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse)

At Stapeley Broad Lane we aspire to teach pupils to live their lives well.

At our school, we use the 3D PSHE and Citizenship curriculum to help children develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to lead happy, healthy and responsible lives.

Our curriculum follows a progressive, age-appropriate approach, with learning revisited and developed as children move through the school. It is organised around three core themes:

❤️ Health and Wellbeing

Children learn how to look after their physical and mental health, understand and manage their emotions, stay safe and make healthy choices. Key areas include healthy lifestyles, personal hygiene, physical activity, emotional wellbeing, growing and changing, medicines and keeping safe.

🤝 Relationships

Children develop an understanding of positive and respectful relationships. They explore friendship, family, kindness, communication, feelings, behaviour, respect, privacy, boundaries and resolving disagreements. Online relationships and staying safe in the digital world are also explored.

🌍 Citizenship – Living in the Wider World

Children learn about their place within their family, school and wider community. They explore diversity, equality, rights and responsibilities, rules, community life and caring for the environment. Financial education, money, work and making responsible choices help prepare children for life beyond school.

Across all three themes, pupils are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, reflect on their experiences and develop the confidence to make positive choices.

Through 3D PSHE and Citizenship, we aim to equip every child with the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to understand themselves, build positive relationships and contribute positively to their community and the wider world.

We supplement the main scheme with additional units on Extremism and Radicalisation (KS1 and 2), Substance Related Abuse (KS2) and Relationships and Sex Education (KS2). RSHE is also a key part of our children's teaching and learning.
